Is My Roommate a Narcissist?

I’m starting to fear the worst

When I answered his want-ad for a roommate, his living conditions seemed fair enough. He slept all day, “worked” all night, then returned home before dawn. I hardly ever saw him with my daytime schedule. The most interaction I’ve had with him was when I would pull an all-nighter.

He would pass through the kitchen and give me a wave before slipping out the window and down the fire escape.

Lately, as of the past couple of weeks, things have changed drastically. It happened one night when I was in the middle of watching Vampire Diaries. Before leaving out the window like usual, he stopped in front of the TV and clicked it off.

“Hey, what gives?” I asked.

“The water bill needs to be paid,” he placed it on the coffee table.

“But it’s your turn to cover it this time,” I said. “Are things going well at work?” Perhaps he couldn’t afford to pay this time. But he ignored me and snuck out the window, avoiding any further confrontation.

7:30 the next evening (the earliest he rises)

I was cooking spaghetti sauce for dinner. The first thing he did was complain about how the whole apartment reeked of garlic.
“I’m sorry.” I replied.
