Masked Prowlers of Bridgetown
Julia sat cross-legged on the roof, juggling three tennis balls as if it were second nature. Her new friend Anna was lying beside her, stargazing into infinity. It was a warm June night in the countryside. The only sounds were cicadas chirping and the wind whistling. On the horizon was a thick wooded area that began from the house and stretched several miles ahead.
There was a run-down building tall enough to be seen peeking out from the trees. She had ventured into the woods before. But she had never explored the near ancient structure. Julia’s parents were out of town that weekend, leaving Julia in solitude. Their only request was that Julia cease exploration of the woods at night.
“Found Virgo,” Anna identified four stars forming a jagged square.
“Yeah?” Julia shifted her eyes towards the sky.
“How do you even do that?” her friend asked. Two balls suddenly knocked into each other. Julia was quick to catch one, but the other bounced off the roof and into the grass below.
“You jinxed me,” Julia smirked. She set down the other two and joined Anna in counting constellations.
“I can’t believe I’m actually here,” said Anna, sitting up suddenly.
“Why is that?”
