A forgotten visitor returns in the least expected place.

I’ve got to get to work on my charcoal drawing. Then I will spray fix my drawing. I will read the chapter. I will write that essay. I will work on the exam. I will scream.

A throaty guffaw broke her train of thought. Sofia glanced up from her notebook. Coming towards her was a tall, gangly built man. He had intense black hair that gleamed blue beneath the street- lamp.

It was late evening. The sky was beginning to color itself a deep fuchsia. The man was dressed in a grey waistcoat, dark jeans and a sweater-vest that hugged his barrel chest. He was looking straight at her, cocking his head slightly.

“Hello,” Sofia replied hesitantly.

“What are you writing there?” he sat on the cold bench beside her, peering over her shoulder. Sofia snapped her notebook shut.

“Just my to-do list,” she stammered, unhappy that her peace had been disturbed.

“I like to keep my agendas a secret too,” he said.

“Did you laugh just now?” she felt her skin prickle as a gust of wind whipped about them.

“Did I?” he mimicked. A dumbfounded smile appeared on his face. He had eyes that reminded her of the sea at midnight.
