Nobody’s Poet

Don’t test me

You’re nobody’s poet. And don’t I know it.

In fact, you’re anything but.

You called me a ray of sunshine. How nice.

Frankly, I’m not.

I’ll let it go this time, but you should be told.

I’m not a gem either, just so you know.

Sorry to wreak your fantasy. I know I sound mean.

But what do you expect me to be? A glitter-coated dream?

I know poets try, but do you mind?

I’m not your delicate daisy. Won’t bend and sway at your command.

Your metaphorical garden is fine. But I’m drawing a line in the sand.

I’ve said my piece. It’s over.

I’m done.

But perhaps now you will think twice,

Before comparing me to the sun.
