A mystery
Julia Brown was walking home from soccer practice. Her knees were grazed in grass stains and her clothing was stained with mud from yesterday’s rain. A light breeze picked up, giving her sweat-soaked skin some cool relief. It was nearing the end of summer vacation and soccer camp was just getting started. Her serenity was interrupted by her phone vibrating in her back pocket. The caller ID said Wendy.
“What’s up?” she greeted her best friend.
“Just wanted to invite you to my parents’ cabin on Friday. Seth, Michael and Alissa will be there. No parental supervision,” she said in her famous no-nonsense tone. “Unless, of course, you’re too busy.”
“I’ll have to check my schedule. I may or may not have practice.”
“Fine, check your schedule and get back to me right away. I swear, between my job at Roy’s place and your sport, we’re starting to become strangers. You can’t let this sport take up your whole life Jules.”
“This sport is my life, Wendy,” Julia retorted. “I promise I’ll get back to you as soon as I figure out what’s going on.”
“Great, bye,” the two hung up. Truth be told, as much as Julia loved her friends, she was looking forward to a weekend left to her own devices. Plus, Seth was creepy, unpredictable and had a hardcore crush on…
